Roadway Safety Matters in Timnath

Roadway safety plays a critical part in the daily lives of residents, from children traveling to school to families, workers and seniors moving throughout the community. Timnath averages of about 80 crashes every year, and more than 10 of them result in injuries. The impact of traffic crashes touches every aspect of the physical and emotional wellbeing of a community, including families, students, workplaces, emergency responders, neighborhoods, livelihoods, mobility and more.

Nationwide, there is a movement towards “Vision Zero” – striving for a time when no one dies while walking, biking, rolling and driving in their communities. The Town successfully applied for a federal grant within the Vision Zero framework to fund a project called a Safety Action Plan.

What is the Timnath Transportation Safety Action Plan?

The Safety Action Plan will be a townwide proactive, data-driven effort to systematically identify existing and potential safety concerns on Timnath roads. The work includes:

  • Review and analyze traffic crash records
  • Evaluate and prioritize locations for potential improvements
  • Review programs and processes to strengthen safety focus
  • Gather public input and comments
  • Analyze safety conditions for vulnerable road users (people walking, rolling and biking)

The Safety Action Plan will detail strategies for safety improvements, prioritize lists of potential infrastructure, recommend programs/policies, discuss education and enforcement efforts, and create a process for ongoing review on an annual basis. Completing the Plan will make the Town eligible for additional federal funding to implement recommendations.

The goal is to create a data-driven action plan that identifies specific safety focused strategies and projects which can be implemented to make Timnath’s transportation system safer for everyone.

Provide Your Input

The Town welcomes comments and thoughts from residents using the transportation system. Utilize the mapping tool below to tell us how you move about the area and any locations of safety concern. Your voice can help prevent future crashes and improve daily travel.

Public input is an important component for the project team as locations are identified, evaluated and prioritized for improvements. Similarly, areas of emphasis such as education and enforcement are informed by the experiences of the public.

Stay Informed

Study documents and updates will be posted to this webpage during the course of the project. Check back anytime for the latest information. Subscribe to email updates with the link below to receive project updates.

    May 2026 Update

Since the project began, the team has made steady progress across data collection, analysis, and early engagement efforts, including:

    • Coordinating with the Police Department to compile and analyze a comprehensive database of traffic crashes, which will serve as the foundation for identifying trends and high-risk locations
    • Developing mapping tools, GIS layers, and analysis frameworks to better understand existing and potential safety concerns across Timnath’s transportation network
    • Launching the project webpage and interactive map, providing residents with an accessible way to share feedback and identify locations of concern
    • Conducting early outreach through community events and digital communications to begin gathering public input
    • Presenting to Town Council and facilitating an interactive work session to gather initial input on safety priorities, focus areas, and the overall vision for the plan

In addition to broader community outreach, the project team has initiated stakeholder engagement through the Safety Action Plan Advisory Committee. The first committee meeting was held in April 2026 and included representatives from Town Council, local agencies, schools, and community organizations. The committee will meet a total of three times throughout the project to provide input, review progress, and help guide development of the plan.

Together, these efforts are helping to build a strong foundation of data, community input, and stakeholder perspectives that will inform the next phase of analysis and strategy development.
